There are some key aspects that you should look out for when looking for a digital skills training course:

Digital Skills Training Course

Information Literacy

When looking for a digital skills training course it is important to have the right set of information. What does this mean exactly? The course must have all the information you will need in order to venture into this new topic. By being provided with the right tools in terms of information, either words or videos, you will have a base to come back to if you have any doubts or questions.

Applying it to everyday life or your work/business

When thinking about this point: what do you need a digital skills training course for?

Normally the answer is reduced to 2 key areas. Either you need it for your everyday day life or for your work/business.

If you need it for your everyday life, it is important to know which areas of your life you need it for. Is it simple tasks like online banking? Is it to build your personal website or a blog? Or is it to simply have more followers on Facebook.

From a business/work point of view, it might be to increase more people coming to your website and writing more engaging content or something completely different. I will explain this further in the next point.

Knowing your goal

This is key when choosing a digital skills training course. What do you want the course for? What is your level? What would you like to know? What is your goal? As a coach and trainer, I’ve seen a lot of people who wanted to do one thing but needed a base in something different first and to pass through different steps to reach it. For example, it is very common for people who have a website to want to rank higher on Google. This is about SEO which is a relatively complicated subject.

Before they learn how to walk they need to know how to crawl, so I advise them to first know more about Google my business, to delve into their CMS and take care of their social media before going to the nitty-gritty of SEO. So know your goal and understand your current level first.

Digital Skills Training Course

Good Tutors

“There is no such thing as a bad student, only a bad teacher.” This is an old Chinese saying, which is absolutely spot on. If you are already predisposed to start a digital training skills course or any other course the will or need to learn is already there.

It might be challenging at times but having the right information and the right tutors is key for a students’ development. I can give you many examples but I will pick one. I paid heftily for a project management course, it wasn’t exciting but it was something I needed; I started the course and was able to finish some lessons but the tutor and material presented was so bad that I quit and lost my money. This means that due to the tutor I completely lost passion for what I was doing.

Simplifying complex subjects

When you are learning digital skills or any other course it is key to understand what is being talked about. The human brain is built to more easily understand simple subjects than complicated. It is simply the way we learn. A digital skills training course must provide material and tutors that can simplify complex subjects so that the student can feel motivated and learn more easily.

Confidence building

With my experience as a coach and trainer, I had several “students” that had difficulties in certain subjects and my mission was to guide them and motivate them.

In a digital skills training course, it can sometimes be daunting because they are afraid to make mistakes and this is where confidence plays a big part.

If you have a tutor that understands you and gives you the confidence to go ahead, and if needed make mistakes without judging, the student will build their confidence and learn more quickly and effectively.
